Phi Theta Kappa is the international honorary scholarship society for community and technical colleges. The purposes of the society are to promote scholarship, develop character, and cultivate fellowship among the students of the two-year colleges of the United States and around the world. The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize academic achievement of college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Nu Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was chartered by Hill College on November 17, 1964. 

Phi Theta Kappa has rigorous standards for eligibility and admission into the Nu Xi chapter.

Students pursuing an associate degree (AA, AS, AAT, or AAS) must have completed a minimum of 12 hours of college-level coursework at Hill College counting toward degree requirements, must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA in all coursework attempted at Hill College, must be TSI complete, and must be currently enrolled in classes at Hill College.

Students enrolled in a one-year certificate program must have completed a minimum of 6 hours of college-level coursework at Hill College counting toward the one-year certificate requirements, must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA in all coursework attempted at Hill College, and must be currently enrolled in classes at Hill College.

Established by Missouri two-year college presidents in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service. Phi Theta Kappa has recognized academic excellence in the two-year college since 1918 and has become the largest and the most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges around the world.

Membership is lifetime and the benefits of membership can extend through graduate and post-graduate work at four-year institutions.
