Mathematics

Welcome to the Mathematics Department

The math department of Hill College strives to improve students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills though the study of the language of mathematics.  Understanding how to analyze, interpret, and communicate using the language of mathematics involves logic and attention to detail.  We help students to train their brain, improve concentration, and apply mathematical reason to solve problems.

We offer a variety of courses in a variety of formats ranging from traditional face-to-face to completely online.  There are technology aided courses and some hybrid style courses as well.  To see a complete list of the courses offered with brief descriptions, see our catalog.  General "master" course syllabi are available below: note that not all courses are offered each semester. To see current course offerings (by date/time/location/type etc.), please see our “Class Schedules”.

Math in Degree Plans

The core curriculum includes 3 hours of mathematics which is one class.  Typically students choose to take either College Algebra (MATH 1314) or Statistics (MATH 1342).  Other options include, but are not limited to: Trigonometry (MATH 1316), Precalculus (MATH 2412), Precalculus for Business (MATH 1324), Calculus for Business (MATH 1325), and Calculus 1 (MATH 2413).

Associate of Arts Degree in Mathematics

The Associate of Arts Degrees in various fields require more than just the core mathematics course.  You should plan your schedule as much in advance as you can by reviewing the degree plan(s) you have chosen and the class schedules.

Tutoring Services

Hill College provides students with access to the SMARTHINKING tutoring services.  You can access this through the Smarthinking link in any of your Blackboard courses.

Hill College also provides free individual and group tutoring for many subjects including math. For more information about scheduling tutoring or becoming a tutor see the counseling department.

The faculty at Hill College have learning lab times available to all students.  The current schedule for the learning labs is: **link or upload the schedule here**
