Head Coach Leigh Ebner
Ebner begins her 14th season as the head coach of the Lady Rebels' softball program. Her teams in the past have been well-rounded; performing well not only on the field, but also in the classroom. Every team since 2007 has been named an All American team.
Ebner's playing experience dates back to 1996 when she pitched for Ranger College while earning her associate's degree. From there, she moved to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla., where she pitched for two more years.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree and received her master's degree in education from Tarleton State University. Prior to her tenure at Hill, Ebner spent five years as the head coach at Ranger College.
She is a native of Santa Fe, Texas, and currently resides in Hillsboro with her husband, Ryan, and their sons, Easton and Knocks.
Assistant Coach Matt Wilkins
Matt Wilkins joins the Hill College Lady Rebels’ Softball program as Assistant Coach for the 2017-2018 Season.
Wilkins brings over twenty-five years of coaching experience, including public and private secondary education and collegiate level experience. Wilkins comes to Hill College from NAIA, Texas Wesleyan University, where he served as Assistant Coach and Pitching Coach for three years.
During his tenure at Texas Wesleyan University, he was instrumental in many successes for the Lady Rams. In 2016 the team went 18-10 in Sooner Athletic Conference play and advanced to the Conference Tournament Championship game after defeating No. 1 ranked (and eventual NAIA 2016 National Champion) Oklahoma City University 3-2. The Lady Rams then pushed No. 3 St. Gregory's to the limit before falling 4-3 in the Championship game. Each of the last 2 seasons the team’s season ERA dropped, being 3.20 in Coach Wilkins’ last season of 2017. While also helping different pitchers record a no-hitter and multiple 1-hit games, the Lady Rams enjoyed 30-win season in 2017. This was their first 30-win season since 2010.
Wilkins graduated in 1995 from Howard Payne University with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science. While at Howard Payne, he served as student assistant from 1991-1992, the head JV Men’s basketball coach from 1993-1995 and as the assistant Varsity Men’s basketball coach from 1993-1995. Wilkins has been a part of two NAIA Conference Championship teams and coached three All-Americans.
From 1996-1998, he served as the Athletic Director and coach at Brenham Christian Academy in Brenham, TX. At BCA, Wilkins began coaching softball, he also was the Varsity six man football and Varsity boys basketball coach.
In 1998, he moved to Tomball, TX and served as Athletic Director and coach at Rosehill Christian Academy and coached six man football, basketball and golf.
In 1999, Wilkins received the opportunity to coach and teach at Italy High School in Italy, TX. There he was assistant Varsity football coach, assistant Varsity men’s basketball, head JV men’s basketball coach and Head tennis coach.
In 2000, Wilkins studied at the Massage Institute of Dallas where he received his RMT license. He focused on sports rehab and sport injury prevention and still uses the skills he learned today on his athletes. He was an active RMT from 2000-2008.
In 2009, Wilkins served as the assistant men’s basketball coach and assistant softball coach at Southwest Christian Academy in Fort Worth, TX. It is during this time that his passions for softball was truly ignited.
Throughout the years, Wilkins has established and run a successful select basketball program for grades three through twelve. When his daughters were old enough to begin playing softball he focused solely on softball. He currently coaches and operates a select softball team, Alliance 18U, but has coached 10U through 18U select softball teams. He is also the Tournament Director/Camp Director of The Elite College Softball Showcases.
He resides in Burleson, TX and is married to Sharena Wilkins and has four daughters, Maloree, Kallee, Regan and Mattee.
