In light of the current economic state of America, a tremendous shift in the importance of the role of community colleges in society is more evident as many report challenges in keeping up with the increasing student enrollment demands.  Today’s community colleges serve almost half of the undergraduate students in the United States.   With significant budget cuts across the board, they are faced with dwindling resources for instruction, scholarships, capital, and administration.  This holds true for Hill College.

Additionally, students who already lead challenging lives are again confronted with another obstacle of paying for their education.  ‘The workforce of today and into the future needs to be more educated than the workforces of previous generations. Educating a competitive workforce helps to stimulate both the local and state economies.  It also helps individuals improve their lives and the lives of their family.  Merely graduating from high school is no longer sufficient to guarantee a steady job and a middle class income.’ (American Association of Community Colleges)
