Lady Rebels Look to Help from Down Under This Season

Lady Rebels Look to Help from Down Under This SeasonAfter an unsuccessful 2009-10 campaign, the Hill College Lady Rebels basketball team will look to a couple of Australians, among others, to get back to the regional tournament this year.

The 2009-10 season was a struggle for the Lady Rebels as the finished 5-11 in conference and 10-20 overall.

Newcomers to the team include Carli Norman and Giulia DiNunzio from Victoria, Australia and transfer Dysyan Malone. Malone played at Allen Community College in Kansas where she averaged 13.7 points per game and eight rebounds a game.

The Lady Rebels have three returning lettermen which include guard Jasmine White from Round Rock, forward Kenyadah Hopkins from Newark, New Jersey, and guard Ashley Villarreal from El Paso who missed all of last season with an injury. Villarreal was a starter on the 2008-09 team that went to the regional tournament.

“It’s a great group of kids that should only get better as the year goes on,” third-year Head Coach Aaron Kallhoff said. “DiNunzio is very athletic and a great shooter while Norman has a high basketball IQ and is a great passer. Both of them are great basketball players and excellent in the classroom which makes them a huge asset to Hill College.”

Hill College plays in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference which makes up half of Region V. The teams that will compete for the conference crown include Cisco College who finished fourth last season, Weatherford College who missed the postseason for the first time in more than 30 years and Grayson County College who finished last in the conference last season, but return key members from that team.

The first home game is 6 p.m., Mon., Nov. 1, against Blinn College. For the complete 2010 Hill College women’s basketball schedule, visit our website at http://www.hillcollege.edu/athletics/.
