HC Leads Texas in Academic All-Americans

HC Leads Texas in Academic All-AmericansThe NJCAA National Office in Colorado Springs, Colo., released the names of the 2011-12 NJCAA Academic All-American awards recently, and Hill College led the state of Texas and tied for fifth in the nation with 17!

“I am super excited that our athletes at Hill College have accomplished this,” Athletic Director Paul Brown said. “In collegiate athletics, education is number one and even while we have been successful on the courts and fields, this achievement emphasizes exactly what we are trying to instill in our athletes – education!”

Traci Cooper (women’s soccer), Iliana Hinojosa (softball) and Kyle Kern (baseball) received the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence for having a 4.0 GPA for 45 semester hours.

The following students received Superior Academic Achievement awards (3.8 to 3.99 GPA for 45 semester hours): Kelsie Dutton (women's basketball, 3.96), Chane Lynch (baseball, 3.82), Michaela McNeely (volleyball, 3.81), Andrea Moen (softball, 3.91), Ashley White (women's soccer, 3.89) and Travis Wolf (baseball, 3.86).

The following students received Exemplary Academic Achievement awards (3.6 to 3.79 GPA for 45 semester hours): Brittany Berry (volleyball, 3.7), Tyler Creek (baseball, 3.6), Matt Daniels (baseball, 3.63), Seth Harrison (baseball, 3.65), Elizabeth Moore (softball, 3.6), Kimberly Stanley (softball, 3.79), Ryan Swinney (baseball, 3.66) and Tara Tague (softball, 3.72).

Hill College also had three All-Academic teams for the 2011-12 academic year (3.00 GPA or higher): volleyball (3.12), softball (3.32) and baseball (3.24, tied for 9th in nation).

The NJCAA is the second largest national intercollegiate athletic organization in the United States with more than 500 member schools in 43 states. Each year more than 60,000 student-athletes compete in one of 28 different sports.
