Hill College Music Major Takes First Place

Hill College Music Major Takes First PlaceSophomore music major Matthew Puccio, Jr. earned first place in Division IV of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition at Texas Woman’s University this past Sat., April 9, 2011.

Puccio sang Stafano Donaudy’s “O del mio amato ben”, Henry Purcell’s “I Attempt from Love’s Sickness to Fly” and G. F. Handel’s aria “Every Valley Shall be Exalted” from "The Messiah."

Freshman music majors Ashley Rodriguez and Bryant Reyes also participated in the competition which is a rigorous and challenging event open to college and university students who study with NATS members. All three students are currently studying with Cassi Jones, Hill College adjunct voice instructor, who also served as a judge at the competition. Shirley Erickson, Hill College director of choral activities, accompanied these students at the piano. The music department congratulates each of these students and faculty on their success.
