Runnin’ Rebels Earn Regional Tournament Berth

MBBHILLSBORO -- The Hill College Runnin’ Rebel basketball team completed their regular season with a 22-8 overall record and 7-5 in conference play. Hill will represent the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) in the Region V Tournament March 5-8 at Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas.
           

The tournament pits the top four NTJCAC finishers with the top four from the Western Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (WTJCAC). It is a single elimination tournament with the winner advancing to the National Tournament March 17-22, in Hutchinson, Kan.
 

“We feel good about our chances in this tournament,” Head Coach Swede Trenkle said. “We’ve played one of the toughest schedules in the nation which has helped us prepare mentally for Lubbock.”                        
          

The Runnin’ Rebels are led by Tramique Sutherland with 19.9 points (28th nationally), 6.9 rebounds, 8.5 assists (second nationally) and 3.2 steals (second nationally). Forward Michael Chandler leads the team in rebounding with 11.6 per game which is 11th nationally, and blocks with 5.1 (second nationally). Other key contributors include Jared Johnson (14.3 points and four assists per game), Xavier Habersham (12.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game) and Tyrell Bellot-Green (11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game).
           

Six Runnin’ Rebels were named to the NTJCAC All-Conference team including Bellot-Green being named Co-Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Sutherland also received First Team recognition while Johnson and Habersham were named to the Second Team. Chandler  and Taylor Luster received honorable mention recognition.
