Baylor Bella Voce Women’s Ensemble to Perform at Hill College March 24

HILLSBORO – Baylor University has supported the Hill College Performing Arts Series with many performances over the years, including the symphony, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble and faculty brass quintet. This proud tradition continues at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 24, in the Vara Martin Daniel Performing Arts Center with a performance by Baylor Bella Voce, a highly select women’s choral ensemble composed of music majors and non-majors. 

Majors in church music, performance and music education join with those from various other colleges of the university, such as nursing and business. The ensemble performs a wide and interesting variety of choral selections reflecting various style periods and genres from the vast choral repertoire featuring women’s voices. Joining Bella Voce to reprise selections from their performance at the 2013 International Horn Symposium will be Baylor Horn Professor, Jeffrey Powers. 

Dr. Lynne Gackle, Professor of Ensembles and Associate Director of Choral Activities, is the founder and conductor of Bella Voce. Gackle has conducted All-State choirs in 28 states, several divisional ACDA honor choirs and two ACDA national honor choirs. Her choirs performed at American Choral Directors Association state, division, and national conferences and the Music Educators National Conference Biennial Convention.  Internationally, she conducted the Australian National Choral Association’s High School Women’s Choir in Brisbane, the Alberta Choral Federation’s High School Honour Choir in Calgary, the DoDDS-Europe Honors Music Festival Mixed Choir, (Wiesbaden, Germany),  the Haydn Youth Festival in Vienna, and the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) International Women’s Honor Choir in Beijing, China. She is the editor of Choral Artistry for the Singer with Walton Music and the Lynne Gackle Choral Series for Colla Voce Music, Inc. Gackle has written several articles for the Choral Journal and contributed to the MENC publication, Music at the Middle Level:  Building Strong Programs. Lynne is the author of Finding Ophelia’s Voice, Opening Ophelia’s Heart:  Nurturing the Adolescent Female Voice, published by Heritage Music Press. Gackle was also awarded Baylor’s Outstanding Faculty Award in Research in 2012. Jonathan Pinto, a Baylor graduate in Collaborative Piano Performance, serves as accompanist.

This performance is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the performance in the South PAC hosted by the Hillsboro Monday Review Club. The recently renovated Performing Arts Center has ample parking for the mobility-challenged on the north side of the facility with access ramps.
