Search for Next Hill College President Moving Forward with 37 Applications

04.16.14

The search for Hill College’s next president has received a lot of interest, with more than 70 inquiries and a total of 37 completed applications.

“This is the biggest response I have seen in some time. The interest is very high,” said presidential search consultant Dr. John Anthony.

Of the 37 candidates, 12 have some presidential experience (campus, district or interim) and 24 have spent some of their professional time in Texas.  Per state law, all names must remain confidential until such time as finalists are identified, Dr. Anthony said.

The Hill College Board of Trustees engaged Dr. Anthony last fall when then-president Dr. Sheryl Kappus announced that she would retire in March of this year. The board also appointed a screening committee, of internal and community members, and set a closing date of April 7 for applications.

Members of the screening committee are: Jack Harper, Hillsboro city manager; Timothy Miller, former superintendent, Cleburne ISD; Pam Timmons, Hill College regent; Jennifer Nowlin manager Hill County Title Company; Rex Parcells, vice president of instruction, Hill College; Don Schneider, accountant, Hill College; Claudia Rodriguez enrollment specialist, Hill College; Thomas Smith, economics instructor, Hill College; Eleanor Bush, biology instructor, Hill College; and Jerry Hampton, automotive mechanics instructor, Hill College;.

The Screening Committee will meet at noon Tuesday, April 22 to identify 10 to 12 semifinalists from the list of 37.  After references are checked, the committee will meet again in early May to narrow the field to 4 or 5 finalists, who they will recommend to the board for consideration.

Once the board approves the finalists, their names become public and they will be invited to the college for a full day of interviews. The goal is to have the interviews in late May or early June and to have the president-elect identified by mid June.  The reporting date for the new president will be negotiated.
