HILLSBORO, TEXAS--In May, three Hill College faculty members were selected to receive study grants, which were used to fund continuing research in their fields of study throughout the summer. The winners were Dr. Lori Rose, biology instructor; Jerry Hampton, automotive program coordinator and instructor; and Jack Williams, vocational nursing instructor. During Hill College’s recent all-staff day, the grant winners presented their project findings.

Rose used the grant to attend professional development training from Metabolic Healing, a practitioner-training program that provides education in functional nutrition, nutrigenomic biochemistry, and functional lab assessment. Rose said, “My summer research grant project training has been extremely rigorous, and will help me make my biology topics more relevant as well as provide a superior level of education to the Holistic Wellness Pathway students at Hill College.”

Hampton visited the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich. While there he toured the Rouge assembly plant, the Henry Ford Village, and rode in two Model-T cars. Hampton learned how assembly of the vehicle and its body design determine how engines and accessories are placed. Hampton hopes to use his visit to the Ford Museum to better integrate automobile history into his curriculum.

Williams’ research took him to the Jules Undersea Lodge located 30 feet under water in Key Largo, Fla. He conducted distance learning webinars to nursing and echocardiography students, who watched from the Hill County Campus and Johnson County Campus. Williams studied the potential health-related risks of diving, and used his findings to teach nursing students the effects of diving on patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, diabetes and more.
