Hill College Men’s Rodeo Team ends the fall season second in the region, Women’s Team is eighth

After five college rodeos the Hill College Men’s Rodeo team is in second place in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Southern Region Standings with 2,633.33 points trailing Panola Junior College by only 120.5 points. Sam Houston State University is third with 1,939 points and McNeese State University is fourth with 1,766.49 points. Additionally, the men’s team is sixth in the NIRA national standings.

Hill College’s Cowboy Jon Douch of Huntsville is second in the all-around standings with 673.5 points just behind Panola’s Logan Cook by 157.5 points. In the saddle bronc riding standings Logan Decker of Burleson is setting sixth and Jarrod Hammons of Stephenville is seventh. Zach Hibler of Wheeler is first in the bareback riding standings, Ezekiel Mitchell of Baytown is sixth and Colby Fedor of Grandview is seventh. Mitchell is also third in the bull riding standings and Laramie Craigen of Beaumont is sixth. In the tie down roping, Douch is in first, Cooper Mathews of Cleburne is second and Tanner Fleet of Axtell is fourth. In the steer wrestling standings Douch is fourth and Preston Westphal of Arlington is 13th. In the team roping header standings Cyle Denison of Iowa, La., is first and Tyler Harris of Athens is eighth. In the team roping heeler standings Clay Sieber of Troup is first, Ross Ashford of Lott is second, Mathews is eighth and Colton Brittain of Rockwall is 13th.

The women’s rodeo team is eighth in the women’s team standings, with Raelee Self of Sumner in 11th place and Megan Wright of Magnolia in 12th in the barrel racing standings for the Southern Region. 

The spring semester rodeos resume Feb. 9-11, 2018, at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens; Feb. 23-24, 2018, at Texas A&M-Kingsville at the Robstown Expo Center; March 16-17, 2018, at Texas A&M University at the Brazos County Expo Complex. Hill College will host their home rodeo March 23-24, 2018, at the Hill College Rodeo Grounds in Hillsboro. The final rodeo of the 2017-2018 season will be held April 20-21, 2018, at Wharton County Junior College.
