The Hill College vocational nursing program has earned a 100 percent first time pass rate on the 2017 National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN). All seven students who took the examination passed and will be awarded licensure as vocational nurses. This rate far surpasses the state average of 86 percent, and the national average of 83.85 percent.

“I am proud of our students in passing their NCLEX examination. It is a difficult and a high stake examination. Whether a vocational nurse or a professional nurse, the NCLEX exam is the final deciding factor for the graduate to get his/her nursing license. Hill College’s pass rate is based on the student’s first attempt at taking the test. Nerves and anxiety play into whether the student is successful or not,” said Lori Moseley, dean of health and community services, “Congratulations to Janis Grimland, program director, and the vocational nursing faculty on their 100 percent pass rate. They have had a pass rate greater than 90 percent in the last 10 years. Great job.”

In 2017, Hill College’s vocation nursing program was ranked as the number 15 LVN program, out of 79 programs, in the state of Texas by PracticalNursing.org. LVN programs were assessed on several factors, which represent how well a program supports students toward licensure and beyond. Past and present NCLEX-PN “pass-rates” are reviewed and weighted by year.

The vocational nursing program will be taking applications for the fall 2018 Cleburne location through June 1, 2018. For more information, please visit www.hillcollege.edu/lvn.
