The Hill College Continuing Education Department has extended the start date of the online Pharmacy Technician Program to Feb. 19.

The Pharmacy Technician Program prepares individuals for entry-level jobs as a pharmacy technician in retail and institutional settings. Students will learn to prepare prescription orders under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, perform applicable pharmacy calculations, and comply with federal and state regulatory agency laws and regulations. Two sections of the 272-hour online program are available, Feb. 19-May 25 or Aug. 6-Nov. 9, and the cost is $1,629. Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG $550) funding is available for those who qualify.

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to perform all the duties required in any pharmacy practice setting. Students are also prepared to take the certification exam offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

The program consists of 152 hours of online lecture/lab, followed by a 120-hour internship in a local pharmacy setting after completion of class/lab. The internship is included in the cost of the course; however, scrubs and materials must be purchased separately. Students must register for all the classes upon program entry. CPR for Healthcare Providers is required. Students are responsible for textbook(s) and supplies.
