Coach Hyland Signs Five Commitments

04.15.13

HILLSBORO - Second-year Hill College Lady Rebels basketball Head Coach Scott Hyland recently signed his first five commitments for the 2013-14 season.

Jenna Davis is a 6’0 small forward from Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas. Davis was District 5-5A Defensive MVP and First Team All-District. She was the team’s leading rebounder with 6.1 per game and also averaged 5.7 points per game.

"Jenna is a very athletic, long forward that will enable us a great deal of flexibility on both ends of the floor,” said Head Coach Scott Hyland. “She can defend almost anyone on the floor and on the offensive end, can score in a number of ways. Jenna is a very good all-around talent that has a very bright future ahead of her."

Niniva Taito is a 5’5 point guard from Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas. Taito was named to the district All-Academic team her junior and senior year, and was district Honorable Mention as a player her senior year.

"The starting point guard for a 5A top 10 team is always a plus to have,” added Hyland. “She is a steady ball handler that has the ability to run the team and knock in the open jumper. Niniva is also a solid defensive player and will do what it takes for her team to win."

Taylor Moore is a 6’1 forward from Whitharral High School in Whitharral, Texas. Among Moore’s numerous honors, she was two-time district MVP, TABC All-Region and TABC All-State. Moore averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals per game.

"Taylor showed a great deal in leading her team to a state title this year,” Hyland said. “She can score in the post or knock down the three-pointer. The thing that we loved about Taylor was her unselfishness. She is an exceptional passer that has tremendous potential to grow and develop in her stint here at Hill."

Brittany Johnson is a 5’7 point guard from Central Heights High School in Nacogdoches, Texas. Johnson was named district Newcomer of the Year in 2010, district Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 and District MVP in 2012. She was also First Team All-District along with TABC All-Region player in 2013. Johnson averaged 9.8 points, 2.6 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game as a senior.

"Brittany really epitomizes what this recruiting class is about,” added Hyland.  “An all-state player that sacrificed her scoring for the betterment of the team. She is very athletic and can make plays off the dribble or knock down the open shot, but her best attributes are her team-first mentality and work ethic."

Bria Jackson is a 5’8 shooting guard from Nimitz High School in Irving, Texas. Jackson was co-captain of her team and First Team All-District. She averaged 17 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game.

"Bria is a very talented all-around player,” Hyland said. “She can score in a number of ways; off the dribble, shooting the three or in the post. Bria is very athletic and can lock down on people defensively. She also has a great personality and will be a joy to work with."
