Lady Rebel Volleyball Headed to Nationals
HILLSBORO – The Hill College Lady Rebel Volleyball program won the NJCAA Region V North Tournament this past weekend and will compete in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament November 21-23 in Casper, Wyo., for the first time since 2002. The Lady Rebels are ranked #14 nationally and have an overall record of 28-7.
Hill defeated Vernon College 25-19, 26-24 and 25-22 in the first round of the Region Tournament. In the second round, Temple College took Hill the distance, but the Lady Rebels persevered 24-26, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20 and 15-13. A Temple win over Vernon College in the loser’s bracket championship meant a rematch of the second round game. This time it was all Hill as they swept the Lady Leopards 25-21, 25-22 and 25-14.
Hill also had four players named to the NTJCAC All-Conference team. Setter Chelby Stanford was named Most Valuable Player and First-Team All-Conference, Libero Amy Holt was named Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference, Right-side Hitter Tammy Leranth was named First-Team All-Conference as well as Outside Hitter Laycia Robinson.
