Lady Rebels Ranked #20 in Nation
HILLSBORO – Headed into the winter break, the Lady Rebel Basketball team is 9-1, ranked No. 20 in the NJCAA Division I poll and off to one of their best starts in program history.
“We are very pleased with our 9-1 record at the Christmas break,” Second-year Head Coach Scott Hyland said. “While we are still trying to get a handle on some things both offensively and defensively, the fact that we lead the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense and worked our way into a ranking in the national poll which means we must be doing something right. Overall, I am pleased with the direction we are going but we know that the there is a lot of work to be done to prepare for the great challenges that lie ahead.”
The season is highlighted by the November 4 victory over then-ranked No. 6 in the nation, Blinn College. The team is led in scoring by sophomore Jasmine Lopez with 10.8 points per game. The team has three impact freshman: Jenna Davis who leads the team in rebounding with 7.9 per game, Brianna Cribb who averages 2.9 steals a game along with 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, and Niniva Taito who leads the team in assists with 4.2 per game.
