Hill College to Host Baltimore Consort February 10

01.31.14

ConsortHILLSBORO – One of the groups Phillip Lowe, Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts at Hill College, has long desired to have perform as part of the Performing Arts Series is the Baltimore Consort, and that desire will come to fruition at 7:30 p.m., Monday, February 10.

The Baltimore Consort,  founded in 1980,  performs the instrumental music of Shakespeare’s time, exploring early English, Scottish and French popular music. Focusing on the relationship between folk and art song and dance, their interest in early music of English/Scottish heritage has also led them to delve into the rich trove of traditional music preserved in North America. Billboard  magazine recognized them as the Top Classical-Crossover Artist of the Year, and they often perform on such syndicated radio broadcasts as St. Paul Sunday, Performance Today, Harmonia and the CBC’s OnStage. Beyond their busy performing schedule, the members enjoy teaching residencies at K-12 schools, the Madison Early Music Festival as well as university engagements.

This performance will take place in the Governor Bill Daniels Auditorium of the Vara Martin Daniel Performing Arts Center, just behind the Texas Heritage Museum on the Hillsboro Campus, and is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the performance in the South PAC hosted by the Sesame Club. The recently renovated performing arts center has ample parking for the mobility-challenged on the north side of the facility with access ramps. More information on the series is available by visiting www.hillcollege.edu/performingartsseries.
