Hill College Rodeo Team Advances to Nationals
The Hill College Men’s Rodeo Team will be the fourth athletic team from Hill College to travel to a national competition this year. The men’s team finished the season with 4,496.50 points, making them the Southern Region Reserve Champion Team behind Wharton County Junior College, just edging out McNeese State University and Sam Houston State University.
Blane Cox finished 3rd in the calf roping, 3rd in the steer wrestling, and 2nd in the all-around race. Cox is a third year student making his third appearance at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) from Rockdale, TX. Cox has finished in the top ten of the nation for the past two years in the calf roping.
Transfer student Forrest Fisher from Navasota, TX finished 3rd in the region in the team roping. He came to us from Weatherford College last year and will be heading for Trace Porter of McNeese State University during the CNFR.
Cole Hatfield of Guthrie, TX will be making his second trip to the CNFR after winning the regional title in the saddle bronc riding. This is his third year of school after a short stent at WTC and Panhandle State University. Injuries have slowed him down, in fact he was injured while competing in last year’s CNFR, but he has been riding well this year.
Sophomore bull rider Justin Hendrix will also be making his second appearance at the CNFR. Last year he finished as reserve champion bull rider for the Southern Region but stepped it up a notch by winning the title this year. Hendrix is from Little River Academy, TX.
Freshman Cody Smith from Bastrop, LA finished as the reserve champion bareback rider of the southern region. Rounding out the team will be sophomore bareback rider Spur Lacasse of Quebec, Canada.
The College National Finals Rodeo will be held from June 14-20, 2015 in Casper, Wyoming.
