With Hill College positioning itself as the college of choice for the study of history, the Hill College Student Government Association would like to invite everyone out to celebrate an historic event...the inauguration of the next president of the United States--the first African-American president, Barack Obama. Please join us on Jan. 20 for this celebration! This is a joint venture between Hill College, Calence & Cisco Systems which will be broadcast across our Hillsboro campus as well as to our campus in Cleburne, Tex.
Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with speakers from around the area including Sheryl Kappus, Edith Omberg, City Council for Hillsboro, Mr. Jason Abbot , History professor, Ms. Kathleen Miller, History professor, Dr. Joseph Cheavens, History professor, Mr. John Versluis, Director Texas Heritage Museum. There will be a performance from the Hillsboro City Mass Choir (a group of 40 youth from the community) at approximately 10:30. We will then (just before 11 a.m.) cut to the festivities in Washington, D.C., surrounding President Elect Obamaâ??s entry into the city and his swearing in ceremony. The event will be shown on big screen TVâ??s and will originate from the the Performing Arts Center on the Hillsboro Campus.
After the swearing in of our new president, we will have a performance from a local youth band as well as a mime group. Just after these performances will be closing remarks from dignitaries in attendance with a light lunch provided to all who join us on the special day.
