Carl Perkins/Career Services Program

What is the Carl Perkins Grant?

The Carl Perkins Vocational Education Grant is targeted at Vocational/Technical major students. The program is designed to help individuals identify their strengths and prepare for future employment and career opportunities.  Services provided by the Carl Perkins Grant include:

  • TypeFocus (Career Match Assessment)
  • Career Interest Workshops
  • Job Placement
  • Tutoring
  • Partial Transportation Reimbursement for those who qualify
  • Text book
  • Partial Child care reimbursement for those who qualify.

How do I know if I qualify for textbook, transportation, and child care reimbursement?

It is really easy!  Your major must be in the technical or vocational education departments such as:

  • Certificate of Completion
  • Certificate of Technology
  • Associate of Applied Science
  • Associate of Arts in Pre-nursing

The first step is to fill out the application before the second Friday after regular registration in each long semester.  Mini-mesters are not eligible.  CLICK HERE to complete the application.  Once you have completed the application you will be notified through your Hill College email that you are either accepted or denied.  If accepted, the next step is to set up an appointment time to bring in the proper documentation.   Contact Joel Vela for more information or for an appointment at 817-240-5170.

What documents are required?

Transportation Documents

  1. Copy of most recent Income Tax Return and copy of tax return of anyone whom claims you as a dependent.
  2. Copy of any type of government assistance received.
  3. Copy of map from residence to college campus.
  4. Copy of utility mail or some type or proof of residence.
  5. Copy of valid driver’s license.
  6. Copy of divorce if it applies.
  7. Copy of separation statement if it applies.
  8. Copy of Pell Grant award letter.

Childcare Documents

  1. Copy of most recent Income Tax Return and copy of tax return of anyone whom claims you as a dependent.
  2. Copy of any type of government assistance received.
  3. Copy of birth certificate of each child in day care.
  4. Letter from day care on LETTERHEAD stating child’s name and amount paid each week for each child.
  5. Copy of divorce if it applies.
  6. Copy of separation statement if it applies.
  7. Copy of Pell Grant award letter.

What if I need a tutor?

Fill out the tutor request form. CLICK HERE. Once you fill out the request you will be contacted by the Academic Advising and Student Success center to set up times that you can be tutored.  This is a FREE service provided by the Carl Perkins Grant.

How do I earn extra money in becoming a tutor?

What workshops are available?

Throughout the year there will be multiple workshops from money management, stress management, test taking, etc…  All of the dates will be posted on the Hill College website and these are FREE. Contact Joel Vela for more information or for an appointment at 817-240-5170.

What is our job placement program?
