Practical Skills Testing
Basic EMT
Practical Skills Testing is performed prior to the final written test
- Each EMS student must satisfactorily complete all skills training and national registry skills testing requirements.
- Each student will be given the opportunity to retest one time on his or her national registry practical skills. The
testing may be performed during the EMS course or at the conclusion of the EMS training course.
- If a student fails to satisfactorily complete their skills testing station(s) on their first attempt the student will
be required to receive at least four hours of retraining on the skill before being allowed to retest for a second time
or:
- A Student may waive the four hours of retraining, but he/she must sign a waiver, which will be available at the testing
site. The waiver will be witnessed by the coordinator/instructor along with a student that is currently enrolled in
the EMT Basic course.
- Any student who fails a skills testing station after having received the retraining or having signed the retraining
waiver will be dropped from the EMT Basic course and will be ineligible to test with the National Registry and become
certified with the Texas Department of Health.
