Emergency Medical Technician Course
Being an Emergency Medical Technician takes a certain kind of person. A prehospital care provider is a person who can assimilate
and internalize the essential medical knowledge, along with an understanding of patient care and a realization of the inherent
stress of the occupation. Fostering a TEAM atmosphere among the students, along with the academics, is a goal of this course so
that each and every student is able to reach their full potential as a well-rounded EMT.
College offers comprehensive training in the field of pre-hospital care through the department of Emergency Medical Tehnology.
Students receive training in basic care provider certificate as Emergency Care Attendant and Emergency Medical Technician. Students
wishing to expand their medical traing can choose between a certificate of technology or an associate degree in Emergency Medical
Technology. Hill College offers college credit at the Basic, Intermediate, and Paramedic level of EMS training.
The pre-hospital care field provides a great opportunity for those who complete their medical training to work for the Texas
Department of Health, certified ambulance services, local hospitals, offshore oil rigs, and many other areas where trained medical
technicians would be valued.
Students who choose to pursue the paramedic degree program can benefit from higher pay rates and be candidates for possible
management positions with experience. A comprehensive education in the field of emergency pre-hospital care is the first step in
a rewarding career in the medical profession.
Paramedic courses are offered during the evening and also during the day with a shift schedule similar to the local fire and EMS
departments.
All paramedic students will be required to successfully complete Anatomy & Physiology I and Anatomy & Physiology II as part of
their EMS training. Students who have successfully taken Anatomy & Physiology prior to entry into the EMS program may be exempt
from the course with a grade of "C" or better.
