Basic EMT

All students must maintain a grade point average of seventy five (75) percent or greater on all written tests. All
Hill College EMS students are required to successfully complete eight (8) written examinations covering the EMT Basic
course materials. Test questions will consist of multiple choice, matching, and fill in the blank type questions. Each
student is required to successfully complete the practical skills testing as listed in this manual.

Each student will be allowed two (2) make up test per EMS course. The make up test may consist of multiple choice,
matching, and fill in the blank type questions. Any student unable to maintain a seventy-five (75%) percent or better
score on an initial test will be given a similar knowledge test.
If a student fails to maintain an average of seventy-five (75%) on any future module test, he/she will be dropped
from the course. The student should consider completing a withdrawal form in order to avoid receiving a grade of
(F) Fail, for the course per Hill College student policy.

If a student is not in attendance for the initial test, the student will be given a test different from the initial
test given during the original test date. The student must complete his/her test by the third (3rd) scheduled class
date following the original test date. Failure to complete the test by the deadline will result in a grade of (F) Fail,
resulting in being counted as one (1) of the two (2) allowed failed module tests.

Any student who fails a written test will be required to score at least 80 percent or better on the make up test. The
make up test will consist of multiple choice, matching, and fill in the blank type questions.

The student must complete the make up test by the third (3rd) scheduled class date following the original test date.
Failure to complete the make up test by the deadline will result in a grade of (F) Fail and will be dropped from the
EMS Basic course.

Any student receiving a grade below 80 percent on a written retest will be dropped from the EMS Basic course.

All students are required to receive a score of at least 75 percent on the written final consisting of
two-hundred multiple choice questions in order to be eligible to take the National Registry examination and become
eligible for certification with the Texas Department of Health.

There is no make up test allowed for the final written test. A student�s grade point average prior to
the final examination is not considered as part of the final test grade. There is no grade curve or averaging done for
the final test.

Any student with a learning disability should contact the counseling center prior to the first day of class to determine
the appropriate accommodations needed.

No oral tests shall be given to any student.

Students MUST pass the final examination with a score of 75 percent or higher in order to pass the individual
course section regardless of the students average grade based on previous tests and quiz scores.

The course coordinator reserves the right to determine when the student will be allowed to make up the module test.

Students must satisfactorily complete all skills training and state skills testing.

Students will be given the opportunity to retest one time on their class mandated practical skills.

Students who fail to satisfactorily complete their skills testing station(s) on their first attempt will be required to
receive at least four hours of retraining on the skill before being allowed to retest for a second time.

A Student may waive the four hours of retraining, he/she may sign a waiver stating he/she does not wish to attend the
retraining session. The practical skill waivers will be available at the testing site. The waiver will be witnessed by
the coordinator/instructor along with a student that is currently enrolled in the intermediate - paramedic course.

Any student who fails a skills testing station after receiving the retraining or signing the retraining waiver will be
ineligible to test with the Texas Department of Health.
