Clinical Attendance

Clinical Attendaance - Basic EMT

Clinical attendance is a very critical component of the EMS program. Each student will receive in-hospital and ambulance experience as part of your EMT Basic training.

  1. Every effort shall be made to attend your scheduled clinical rotation.
  2. If a student is not able to attend a scheduled clinical rotation the student shall do the following:
    1. Contact the course coordinator and/or the clinical coordinator within twenty four (24) hours to advise of the cancellation and to arrange rescheduling of the clinical rotation at the discretion of the EMS coordinator.
    2. If a Student fails to contact the EMS coordinator or the Clinical coordinator the student will not be allowed to reschedule the clinical rotation until the following semester.
  3. Student�s will not be allowed to reschedule a clinical rotation unless due to a family emergency or other medical necessity. The course coordinator/clinical coordinator reserves the right to approve the clinical rotation rescheduling based on each individual incident.

    No student will be allowed to miss more than one (1) clinical rotation during the EMT Basic course of instruction.

    Students failing to attend a scheduled clinical rotation will be removed from the EMS training course unless the EMS coordinator and/or the Clinical coordinator have been contacted as stated above.

    The following are EMT Basic clinical rotation requirements:
    • Twenty Four (24) Hours Hospital
    • Forty Eight (48) Hours Ambulance
    • Eight (8) Hours Cook Children's Hospital ER
    • Five (5) Emergency Medical/Trauma Runs - Ambulance
  4. All Clinical rotations must be completed as soon as possible in order to receive a course completion form. No credit will be given for any EMS course if the clinical rotations are not completed prior to 180 days after the completion of classroom instruction. The student will be ineligible to test with the National Registry or become certified with the Texas Department of Health. It is recommended not to wait longer than thirty (30) days to complete all of the required clinical training.
  5. Students will be required to complete the entire EMS course again if all clinical rotations are not completed within the 180 day period.

    No refunds will be given if the student does not withdraw from any EMS course prior to the withdrawal date listed in the college schedule.
  6. It is imperative that all students contact the course coordinator and/or clinical coordinator immediately should any problem arise at any clinical rotation site. You will be given telephone numbers to enable you to contact the course coordinator and clinical coordinator.
  7. Each student is responsible for his/her own transportation to and from all clinical sites.

  8. Clinical Attendance - Intermediate/Paramedic

    Each student will be required to attend outside clinical internship. The required hours will vary depending on the semester the student is enrolled. The clinical internship is a critical part of your EMS.

    1. Every effort must be made to attend your scheduled clinical rotation.
    2. If a student is not able to attend a scheduled clinical rotation, the student shall do the following.
      1. Contact the clinical agency at least eight (8) hours prior to the start of the scheduled rotation.
      2. Contact the course coordinator within twenty-four (24) hours to advise of the cancellation and to arrange rescheduling of the clinical rotation.
    3. The EMS coordinator will reschedule all student clinical rotations. No student will be allowed to miss more than one scheduled clinical rotation. If a student fails to attend any future clinical rotation assignments as scheduled, the student shall be removed from the Hill College EMS program.

    6. All intermediate or paramedic rotations must be completed prior to entering the next semester unless prior arrangements have been made with the course coordinator.
    7. A student must complete all clinical rotations prior to 180 days after the completion of classroom instruction. Failure to complete classroom and or clinical rotations will make the student ineligible for state testing with the Texas Department of Health.
    8. It is imperative that all students contact the course coordinator immediately should any problem arise at any clinical rotation site. You will be given telephone numbers to enable you to contact the course coordinator.
    9. Each student is responsible for his/her own transportation to and from all clinical rotation sites.
    10. No advanced level student will be allowed to perform intravenous infusions without first having the skill performed in the classroom. The student will be tested by the coordinator and/or instructor prior to the scheduled clinical rotation.
