Industrial Maintenance courses new in Hillsboro this fall

HILLSBORO, TEXAS—The Hill College Industrial Maintenance program is expanding this fall to the Hill County Campus with a Certificate of Completion in Basic Industrial Maintenance Skills. Classes start Aug. 26 and will be held at the Wallace Campus Welding Building, 197 Walnut Hill Ave., Hillsboro.

Courses offered include Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Machine Shop Math.

Introduction to SMAW is a 16-week course that runs Aug. 26-Dec. 6 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-3:55 p.m. This course covers power sources, electrode selection, oxy-fuel cutting, and various joint designs.

The second course that will be offered is Machine Shop Math. It is an eight-week course that will be held Oct. 15-Dec. 6 on Thursdays from 1-5 p.m. It is designed to prepare students with technical, applied mathematics that will be necessary in future machine shop-related courses. 

Industrial maintenance technicians are needed in every industry that uses machinery, from assembly plants to warehouses. The Hill College Industrial Maintenance program is dedicated to responding to this critical need in our service area. According to Career Coach data, the median salary is over $65,213 with nearly 200 jobs opening annually in the DFW area.

Students wishing to continue in the program can enroll in additional courses held at the Cleburne Technical Center in downtown Cleburne.
