Early Season Success For Hill College Soccer
HILLSBORO – Coming off their first winning season in program history, Hill College Rebel Soccer has a 3-0 record after defeating conference rival Ranger 1-0, Tuesday afternoon at Wallace Park in Hillsboro. The Lady Rebels also defeated Ranger (5-1) to improve their record to 2-2 this season.
“It is always a mental and physical grind to play Ranger, so to come away with the win is always a great sign of things to come,” third-year Head Coach Paul Davenport said.
The Rebels have defeated Richland College (1-0) and Northwood College JV (2-0) along with Ranger to maintain their undefeated record. The team is led by sophomore Gerardo Olague with two goals and freshman goalkeeper Oscar
Rodriguez who has yet to yield a goal to the opposing team.
The Lady Rebels fell to Richland College (2-1) and Northlake College (2-0) to start the season, but got their revenge against Northlake in a 2-1 win to go along with Tuesday’s win against Ranger. The team is led by sophomores Ariel Marroquin and Tori Little with three and two goals, respectively.
“The girls are starting to hit their stride (seven goals in last two games) and really come together,” Davenport said. “Everyone is focused on getting the program’s second regional title in school history.”
The next home match for both teams is 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 10, as both teams face Northeast Texas at Wallace Park in Hillsboro. For more information on the Hill College soccer teams, visit http://www.hillcollege.edu/athletics/.
