Hill College’s annual ‘Let’s Get Technical’ event comes to Hillsboro on Nov. 12
Hill College will be hosting a “Let’s Get Technical” event at both the Wallace Nursing and Cosmetology Center and the Wallace Welding Center Nov. 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Hillsboro.
The event, which took place in Cleburne last year, is free and open to the public. Its purpose is to showcase Hill College’s many career and technical programs and course offerings that are available to students as well as those who may wish to earn certification in areas such as Welding, Cosmetology, Computer Science and Business Management – just to name a few. Also, financial aid information will be discussed, and literature will be available for those interested in enrolling in any of these career and technical courses.
Hill College Dean of Career and Technical Education Dr. Floretta Bush said nearly half of all jobs in Texas require technical skills that can be earned in two years or less at a community college.
“Many individuals are not aware of the fast, affordable training options await them at their local community college,” Dr. Bush added. “It is also a good opportunity for persons who are already planning on attending Hill College this fall to have any lingering questions answered.”
Demonstrations and exhibits at the event will include a Lincoln Electric demonstration truck, automotive scan tools, and medical scenarios such as Shaken Baby Syndrome. Additional services include free blood pressure checks, massages and mini manicures.
The college’s fire truck and ambulance will be on exhibit at one of the locations, and there is a possibility that a helicopter may be provided as well.
Hill College departments that will be represented at the event include Automotive, Child Development, Cosmetology, Computer Science, Business Management, Office Administration, Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Phlebotomy, Massage Therapy and Fire Protection.
The “Let’s Get Technical” event activities will actually take place at two locations: Wallace Nursing and Cosmetology Center, 1800 Corsicana Highway; and Wallace Welding Facility, 197 CR 3108 (just down the road from the nursing/cosmetology building), in Hillsboro.
Complimentary hot dogs and drinks will be provided at the Wallace Welding Facility.
