Final preparations in place as Hill College’s ‘Let’s Get Technical’ event nears
Hill College staff members have been busy making final preparations for this year’s “Let’s Get Technical” event, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Wallace campuses in Hillsboro.
The free event, which runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., is an interactive open house designed for community members to learn more about the various types of technical training Hill College has to offer.
Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in hands-on activities such as welding, using a torque wrench, or even getting a mini manicure.
Personnel from the Hill College Nursing Department, for example, will also be on hand to provide information about Shaken Baby Syndrome, address wound care, and to administer complimentary blood pressure checks.
Other activities include laser shot and fingerprinting (Criminal Justice) and roping (Ag/Rodeo). The EMS Department has arranged for an ambulance and helicopter to be on hand, as well as a fire truck provided by the college’s Fire Academy.
Additionally, Hill College’s dual credit staff will be on hand, as well as financial aid and technical advisors.
The event represents a first for Hill College’s Hillsboro campus, following the success of a similar event at Hill College’s Cleburne campus.
“The event promises to be fun, as well as information,” said Dr. Floretta Bush, dean of Career and Technical Education. “We hope the community will come out and learn about technical careers and available training.”
All events will take place at the Wallace Nursing and Cosmetology Building and the Wallace Welding Building, which are conveniently located on Walnut Hill Avenue off Highway 22 (across from the Hill College south entrance).
Hot dogs and drinks will also be provided, as well as a few give-a-way items from various departments.
