Hill College partners with USA Offshore to offer free two-week training class
Hill College, in partnership with Hillsboro-based USA Offshore, will host a two-week Introduction to Oil and Gas Industry training course Feb. 15-26 at the Hill County Campus in Hillsboro.
This introductory course is part of the Texas Workforce Commission Wagner Peyser “Systems Safety and Risk Management Program” grant awarded to Global Energy Safety Institute in Pearland for which USA Offshore is a subcontractor.
“Although there is no cost associated with taking this training course, priority will be given to veterans, former aerospace industry employees and individuals who are unemployed or underemployed,” Hill College Executive Director of Community and Workforce Education Dr. Sian Whitfield said. “Also, participants must be 21 years of age or older.”
Colin Perry, President of USA Offshore, said the purpose of the training is to introduce students to the various aspects of offshore drilling. The actual jobs individuals obtain depend on their background experiences.
“The training is a key component for those desiring to obtain employment in the oil and gas industry,” Perry said. “It provides students with an understanding of industry-specific topics and phrases used in the field which, in turn, will enable employees to assimilate to the work environment regardless of their job.”
Perry said the training delivered through USA Offshore will include equipment, systems, instrumentation, operations, and the various scientific principles.
Dr. Whitfield said the training will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for two weeks – and the class size is limited.
