New President Announced

After a months-long search that narrowed a field of some 34 qualified applicants down to six highly qualified finalists, Hill College’s Board of Regents decided to go with home-grown.
Dr. Pamela Boehm, who has served in numerous faculty and administrative roles at Hill College since 1978, has been named the 10th president of Hill College. Dr. Boehm is currently coordinator for social and behavioral sciences. She will assume her new office on July 1, 2014.
“The board voted unanimously and we are very excited to be working with our new president,” said David Teel, chairman of the Hill College Board of Regents. “Dr. Boehm has come up through the ranks of Hill College and has done an exceptional job in every area she has worked.”
Dr. Boehm began at Hill College as administrative assistant to the dean of instruction. Since then she has served as director of counseling and support services, dean of students, vice president of student services, adjunct faculty, crisis counselor, and psychology instructor.
“As a non-traditional student myself, I benefited from the teaching/learning process at a community college by caring faculty who were approachable, accessible, and willing to assist me in reaching my educational goals while raising a family and working,” Dr. Boehm said.
She began her education career at Hill College and also studied at McLennan Community College, Sam Houston State University, and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor prior to receiving her bachelor of arts in applied sciences and then a master’s in education from Tarleton State University. Her doctoral degree in education is from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
“This experience has enabled me to give back to students with encouragement and a desire to assist them in accomplishing their educational goals,” Dr. Boehm said. “A community college is the platform to make this happen by offering up-to-date technology and programs to compete in a global economy and by taking education to the people with cost-effective programs and services that lead to a promising career.”
Dr. Boehm received the Hill College Spirit Award in 2008 and was named Woman of the Year by the Hillsboro Business & Professional Women’s Organization, among many community and professional honors. She has also been very active in community, professional and service organizations.
“I look forward to developing continuing education and short-term training opportunities with business and industries in our service area, as well as meeting the training needs of new, emerging entities moving to our service area,” Dr. Boehm said.
The new president lives in Whitney with her husband Allen, who served at Hill College for over 25 years as vice president of instruction and vice president of research and planning. They have three sons and two grandchildren. When time allows, the couple enjoys fishing.
“I am anxious to meet the public and begin great discussions on how Hill College can serve the area,” Dr. Boehm said. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Hill College Board of Regents, the Hill College family, and the community for their support. Dr. Boehm and Hill College wish to thank Dr. John Anthony, of Executive Resources Consulting Services, for guiding the search committee and the Board through the process of a national search for Hill College’s 10th president. We are also grateful to the members of the community-wide screening committee who spent many volunteer hours poring over resumes and conducting interviews to narrow the search to the six finalists.
Board member and former Hill College president Bill Auvenshine said, “We did a nationwide search. We had 70 inquiries, and we picked the best.”
“Dr. Boehm demonstrates all the qualities the board was looking for,” Teel said.
Community members of the presidential screening committee included Jack Harper, Hillsboro City Manager; Jennifer Nowlin, Hill County Title Company; Pam Timmons, former Hill College Regent; and Tim Miller, former Cleburne ISD superintendent. Members from Hill College were Claudia Rodriguez, enrollment and financial aid specialist; Donald Schneider, accountant; Eleanor Bush, biology instructor; Jerry Hampton, automotive instructor; Rex Parcells, vice president of instruction; and Thomas Smith, economics instructor.
