Learn First Hand about Technical Training At Hill College’s ‘Let’s Get Technical’ Event

                  Anyone thinking about training for a technical career field can get some first-hand information at Hill College’s “Let’s Get Technical” event scheduled for Thursday, July 24, at Hill College’s Snap-On training facility. The interactive open house will allow participants to see equipment in action, participate in demonstrations, and meet college instructors.

                  “There has never been a better time to pursue a technical career field,” said Dr. Floretta Bush, Hill College dean of career and technical education. “Nearly half of all jobs in Texas require technical skills which can be earned in two years or less at a community college.”

                  Bush said the college is sponsoring the open house as a way to educate the community about training opportunities for these jobs. “Many people are unaware of the fast, affordable training options that await them at their local community college,” she said. “It is also a good opportunity for persons who are already planning on attending Hill this fall to have any lingering questions answered.”

                  Hill College departments represented at the event will include Automotive, Welding, Cosmetology, Computer Science, Business Management, Office Administration, Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Phlebotomy, Massage Therapy and Fire Protection. In addition to program and career information, attendees will be able to meet with advisors to learn about applying to Hill College and for financial aid.

                  “Many of our students are pleasantly surprised to learn that they qualify for financial aid,” Bush said. “That aid can make the difference between pursuing their career dreams and settling for an unfulfilling job.”

                  Demonstrations and exhibits will include automotive scan tools, investigative finger printing, and medical scenarios such as shaken baby syndrome. Services will include free massages, blood pressure checks and mini-manicures. Tours of the Snap-On automotive facility and the college’s new welding facility are scheduled. The college’s fire truck and ambulance and Lincoln Electric’s mobile welding training truck will also be onsite.

                  The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Door prizes will also be awarded. The Snap-On training facility is located at 206 North Wilhite, Cleburne. For more information, contact Bush at 817-760-5903.
