Men's and Women's soccer celebrate regional championship wins

The Hill College men’s and women’s soccer teams are both headed to the semi-finals after each team won their regional games on Wednesday, October 29. For the women’s team, it’s the first time since 2008 that they’ve won the regional championships, but for the men’s team, it’s their first-ever win of the regional champions title.

“Western Texas College took it to us on both teams,” said Head Coach Paul Davenport. “We had to show a lot of faith and patience to win each game but after overcoming some adversity, we reached our goals and won.”

The men’s team will head to Kansas to play on November 6, when they will face the No. 1 seeded Kansas team in the Plains District. If the Rebels win, they will automatically qualify for the national tournament and will play again on November 7 in the Plains District finals to determine seeding in the nationals.

The women’s team will play their semi-finals game on November 7 in Oklahoma, where they will play the No. 2 seeded Oklahoma team in the Plains District. If they win, they will play the winner of the Oklahoma No. 1 seeded team and Region 14 team match. The winner of the Plains District final game qualifies for the national tournament.

Both national tournaments will be held November 17 – 22, with the men’s national tournament held at Yavapai College in Prescott Valley, Arizona and the women’s national tournament at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Florida.
