Auto Maintenance Class Provides Preventative Tips

A Hill College class in automobile maintenance may provide car owners the “ounce of prevention” needed to thwart off a “pound of cure” down the road.
The community education class, to be held at the college’s Snap-On training facility, will be taught December 1st and 2nd by Curtis (Curt) Jenkins, who teaches fulltime in the college’s automotive technology program. Jenkins will take students through various maintenance processes, starting with the under-the-hood inspection.
Topics will include checking fluid levels, belts and hoses, the air filter, and the battery. Students will learn about factors contributing to engine performance and the importance of adhering to a maintenance schedule in areas such as oil changes and tune-ups.
Exterior inspection processes will include wipers, lights and tires. Students will learn the causes of irregular tire wear and how to handle the inevitable flat tire.
Jenkins will also cover the importance of asking questions when taking a vehicle in for repair.
The class, offered through Hill College’s Community and Workforce Education Department, will be taught from 5PM to 8PM. The cost is $56.
