Hill College Board of Regents October 2017 meeting summary

The Hill College Board of Regents regular meeting was held Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, in the Board Room of the Hill College Administration Building in Hillsboro at 7 p.m.
The September 2017 regular meeting minutes were reviewed. Regent Charles Bryant motioned and Regent Secretary Karen Brackin seconded the motion to approve the minutes. The minutes were unanimously approved.
Vice President of Administrative Services Billy Don Curbo presented the September 2017 financial report. Regent Dr. William Auvenshine moved to approve the report and Regent Kent Eubank seconded the motion. The financial report was approved as presented.
Hill College President Dr. Pam Boehm recognized two students, Allen Pack of Grandview and Brazos McPeek of Clifton, as a part of the student success initiative report. Pack is one of only three students from two-year colleges across Texas selected to receive the Clara Freshour Nelson Scholarship given by the Texas Association of Music Schools. McPeek was one of only two in the nation to receive a $1,000 scholarship from Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and the International Public Safety Leadership and Ethics Institute. McPeek was also named a 2017 Coca-Cola Leader of Promise Scholar receiving another $1,000 scholarship.
Additionally, President Boehm reported that Johnson County Campus SGA students donated unused desks to a school near the coast that was affected by Hurricane Harvey. The Burleson Opportunity Fund Breakfast of Champions was held Oct. 12 with over 400 attendees. The funds raised at the breakfast cover tuition and fees for students who attend Hill College at Burleson and graduate from BISD. Articulation agreements were recently signed with Hardin-Simons University and Southwestern Adventist University. The annual Hill College Performing Arts Series recently hosted The Light Crust Doughboys as the first in the series. The 13th annual Boots and Suits Gala is being planned and will be held April 20, 2018. The Phi Theta Kappa honor society faculty appreciation lunches were held recently. The College had recruiting tables set up at several community events including the Cleburne Business Expo, Whitney Pioneer Days, Cotton Pickin’ Fair and the Burleson Founder’s Day.
Athletic Director and Head Rodeo Coach Paul Brown reported that the Lady Rebels volleyball team was sixth in the nation for the second week in a row. The women’s soccer team is ranked 15th in the nation. The regional soccer tournament will be held at The Depot Stadium in Cleburne Oct. 23-25 where the Hill College men’s soccer team will play on Oct. 23 and the women’s soccer team will play on Oct. 25. Three players have been selected to play on the regional all-conference soccer team, and 10 Hill College rodeo team alumni have qualified for the National Finals Rodeo in December in Las Vegas, two of them were students last year.
Vice President of Instruction Rex Parcells presented the affiliation agreement with Cleburne Fire Department and the Hill College Health Science Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program. Auvenshine motioned to approve the recommendation and it was seconded by Regent Rick Sullins, and the motion passed.
Vice President Lizza Trenkle presented the continuing education tuition and fees schedule for consideration of approval. Regent Tony Marley motioned to accept the recommendation, Brackin seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Human Resources Director Jamie Jaska presented personnel considerations of one replacement appointment and one voluntary resignation. Bryant made a motion to accept, Auvenshine seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
With no further business to conducted, Brackin motioned to adjourn, Vice President Regent Bill Galiga seconded and meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m.
