HILLSBORO – The Hill College basketball teams swept their games against Temple College on Wednesday night at the Bob Bullock Sports Center. The Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Leopards, 49-47, to improve to 16-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while the Runnin' Rebels beat the Leopards, 71-61, to improve to 19-5 overall and 4-2 in conference.
In the Lady Rebels’ game, Temple led at halftime 29-25, but Hill held the Lady Leopards to 18 points in the second half en route to the comeback victory. Brianna Cribb led the team with eight points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Kierra Davis led the team in scoring with nine points and also added three rebounds.
"Our point guards played one of their more solid games as they only turn the ball over one time the whole game,” Head Coach Scott Hyland said. “Erika Brown, Kierra and Brianna all had big baskets for us down the stretch, and we played some of our best defense of the season to hold on to the win."
In the Runnin' Rebels' game, the Leopards led 35-34, but were outscored by Hill 38-27 as the Rebels went on to win by the final score of 71-61. Temple was held to 52 points below their season average of 113 points (second nationally in scoring).
The Rebels were led by sophomore Tramique Sutherland who had a triple-double (11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists) despite being out with injuries the previous two weeks and unable to practice. Tyrell Bellot-Green came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 20 points, and he also added 10 rebounds.
