Hill College Performing Arts Series Features the Cashore Marionettes
01.31.14
HILLSBORO – Unmatched in artistry, grace and refinement of movement, the internationally acclaimed Cashore Marionettes redefine the art of puppetry. Their moving and humorous performances have astounded audiences in Europe, the Far East and across North America including a performance at the Kennedy Center, and their artistry will be featured as part of the Hill College Performing Arts Series at 7:30 p.m., Monday, February 17.
Unlike many performers who began their artistic journey because of a positive early experience in performing, Joseph Cashore began his trek as the result of a negative experience. Captivated by a marionette in a gift shop, he asked permission to try it out . . . and was turned down flat! Rather than leave discouraged, he continued to pursue his dream and has now been designing and performing with his remarkable marionettes for over 30 years. He holds a BFA degree from the University of Notre Dame; has studied portrait and figure painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; and has received a Henson Foundation Grant (founded by Jim Henson of Muppet fame) to promote puppetry to adult audiences, a UNIMA Citation of Excellence (highest honor a US puppeteer can receive) and a Pew Fellowship for Performance Art.
The performance takes place in the Governor Bill Daniels Auditorium of the Vara Martin Daniel Performing Arts Center, just behind the Texas Heritage Museum on the Hillsboro Campus, and is free and open to the public. A reception with the artist will follow the performance in the South PAC hosted by the Monday Review Juniorettes. The recently renovated performing arts center has ample parking for the mobility-challenged on the north side of the facility with access ramps.
