Cleburne, TX. -- Hill College’s Cosmetology Program hosted an inaugural CHI-Hill College Cosmetology Launch Party and Senior Show Case Fashion Show Monday evening, April 24, at the Liberty Event Center in Cleburne. With nearly 250 people attending the event, Hill College cosmetology students participated in a fashion show and a senior show case. Earlier in the afternoon the students participated in try-outs for a spot on the Farouk Student Artist Team at the upcoming Armstrong-McCall Beauty Supply’s Arlington Fashion Focus event.

Seven students along with faculty members spent the weekend preparing and training for the show with David Bechet, an international platform artist with Farouk Systems. Throughout the weekend the students worked with individual models creating artistic hairstyles and colors for the show. The students presented their model’s hair style and explained their use of CHI products while being judged by Dr. Farouk Shami, founder of Farouk Systems Inc.

The following student artists featured their work at the show: Sierra Blanchard and Haylie Neal, both of Keene; Lorre Thomas, Kelly Rodan and Cheyenne Nix all from Cleburne; Carolyn Ward of Burleson; Catherine Cogdill of Granbury; Alicia Webb of Italy, Texas; and Yamila Oahbu from Puerto Rico.

Dr. Farouk Shami was the special guest and spoke about his passion and dedication to education and the beauty industry and announced the student artist winners.

The winners of the hair show were Catherine Cogdill of Granbury and Carolyn Ward of Burleson. Cogdill, a senior cosmetology student presented a Greek warrior goddess hairstyle on her model and sister Allie Cogdill, a high school student at Granbury. “This was an amazing experience. I was excited and nervous all at the same time," said Catherine of the experience of preparing and modeling in the show.

Carolyn Ward also a senior presented a galaxy themed hair style with Alena Smell of Burleson, as her model. “I was super nervous before the show, but now just super excited about this show and going to Arlington,” said Ward.

Cogdill and Ward will be featured on the Farouk Systems stage at the Armstrong-McCall Beauty Supply’s Arlington Fashion Focus May 7-8 at the Arlington Convention Center.

Last fall the Hill College Cosmetology Program was recognized as one of the best in the U.S. by the Community for Accredited Online Schools, ranking as the #19 Best Beauty Cosmetology Program in the nation.
