Hill College history classes participate in “Burleson Rocks”

11.20.17

Sixty-six Hill College Burleson Center students are participating in the “Burleson Rocks” program. History 1301 and 1302 students painted scenes or objects they learned in class. The painted rocks will be distributed around Burleson on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Misty Withee, adjunct history professor, created the lesson plan after finding the “Burleson Rocks” Facebook page. “I ran across the Burleson Rocks page on Facebook and have always been interested in letting the students learn and express their knowledge in different ways. I had a similar project and then decided to merge my original idea with the rocks project.  I thought it would be great to put the student’s art work on rocks and then put the rocks out in the community,” said Withee. “It not only gets the students to participate in community-type events, but it also lets the community see some of the diverse learning styles Hill College has to offer. Students are enjoying this project. This rock project let my students share their ideas of what they learned or found interesting during this semester.”
