Hill College Board of Regents November 2021 meeting summary

The Hill College Board of Regents met Tuesday, November 16, 2021, for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

Board President David Teel called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m. Regent Tony Marley gave the invocation.

Minutes from the October 2021 regular meeting were reviewed. Regent Rick Sullins moved to approve the minutes and Regent Dwight Lloyd seconded. The minutes were unanimously approved.

Billy Don Curbo presented the financial report for October 2021. Regent Allan Lane moved to approve the financial report as given and was seconded by Regent Bill Galiga. The report was approved.  

Dr. Pam Boehm gave the President’s Report:

  • As part of the college’s QEP, the Financial Fitness Centers have been set up on the Hillsboro and Cleburne campuses. These are resource rooms for students to use. Financial education speaker, Colin Ryan, presented to students Nov. 11 and to employees on Nov. 12. Over 180 students attended the presentation and 120 employees. President of the Board, David Teel, also attended the event.
  • Held a one-day retreat for managers at Russell Farms in Burleson with guest speaker presenting on three topics: Communication, Helping Employees Handle Change, and Empowering and Engaging Employees.
  • The college has experienced recent gas and water leaks at HCC, and all repairs have been made on campus.
  • Spring semester, including dual credit, registration is open.
  • Attended the Texas Success Center Pathway Institute in Dallas. Seven employees attended the event.
  • Attended virtual UNT Law Conference.
  • Meeting with Catholic Charities partner.
  • Met with Johnson County Education Foundation at Southwestern Adventist University campus.
  • Band & Choir concert scheduled for this evening, Nov. 16, in the Performing Arts Center.
  • Performing Arts Series event scheduled for Nov. 18, Martian Folk.

Paul Brown gave an athletic report. Fall sports doing well, with both women’s soccer and volleyball currently on their way to national tournaments.

Billy Don Curbo presented Consideration of Approval of Property Bids for Delinquent Tax Foreclosures. Regent Bill Auvenshine made a motion to accept the bids and was seconded by Regent Lloyd. The motion passed. 

Billy Don Curbo presented Consideration of Approval to Extend Contract with SSC through 2024, including changes. Regent Jennifer Nowlin made a motion to accept the extended contract and was seconded by Regent Auvenshine. The motion passed.

Dr. Boehm presented Consideration of authorizing President to approve Funds for FF & E to Furnish New Higher Education Center in Burleson. Regent Auvenshine made a motion to allow the president to utilize up to $700,000 from reserves for FF & E to furnish the new Burleson Higher Education Center and was seconded by Regent Lloyd. The motion passed.

Dr. Schindler presented Consideration of Approval of Articulation Agreement between South University & Hill College Nursing. Regent Nowlin made a motion to accept the articulation agreement and was seconded by Regent Sullins. The motion passed. 

Jamie Jaska presented the recent Hill College personnel hires and resignations. Regent Galiga made a motion to accept the recent personnel changes and Regent Marley seconded. The motion passed.

With no further business to conduct, Regent Nowlin made a motion to adjourn, Regent Marley seconded. The meeting adjourned at 1:08 p.m.
