The Hill College Board of Regents met Tuesday, January 18, 2022, for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
Board President David Teel called the meeting to order at 12:12 p.m. Regent Rick Sullins gave the invocation.
Minutes from the November 2021 regular meeting were reviewed. Regent Sullins moved to approve the minutes and Regent Dwight Lloyd seconded. The minutes were unanimously approved.
Billy Don Curbo presented the financial report for December 2021. Regent Bill Auvenshine moved to approve the financial report as given and was seconded by Regent Karen Brackin. The report was approved.
Dane Legg of Lott, Vernon and Company presented Consideration of Approval for the FY2021 Audit. Regent Sullins made a motion to approve the audit as presented. Regent Auvenshine seconded. The audit was approved. Mr. Legg recognized Debbie Gerik for her hard work and the ease of which she communicates. Dr. Boehm recognized Kathleen Pustejovsky, Dean of Enrollment Management, for her work regarding federal financial aid. Regent Auvenshine made a motion to have the minutes reflect her hard work and years of service to the college and was seconded by Regent Lloyd. The motion was approved unanimously.
Dr. Pam Boehm gave the President’s Report:
- Today is the first day of classes for the spring 2022 semester.
- Covid-19 update and hand out reflecting new protocols aligned with the new CDC recommendations.
- Boehm shared thank you notes from the families of recently passed former Hill College employees Frank Williams, Senior and Rose Ann Kaska.
- An enrollment report will be given to the board after census date at the February meeting.
- Upcoming Board of Trustee Institute (BOTI) will be held in San Antonio March 1-2, 2022. TACC pays for two board members and the CEO to attend.
- Legislative update: Continuing to be on the TACC Executive Committee. TACC is working with the Legislative Committee and Executive Committee for recommendations to go to the new Community College Finance Committee.
- Held New Hire Orientation on January 6.
- Held All Staff Day on January 7, a day of celebrations and service awards. Jimmy Walker received his 45 years of service award.
- Go Hillsboro committee met. The college, chamber, and economic development staff held the Managers’ Breakfast in December 2021 with almost 50 industry and community partners in attendance. Next step will be to send out a survey to the industry partners to assess training needs.
- The Cleburne Chamber of Commerce Banquet has been postponed to March 31.
- Walk through at the former Kerr Middle School for the Burleson Higher Education Center. Pictures were distributed to the board of the progress. Move-in is estimated for July 2022.
- Athletic Center for Excellence (ACE) ribbon cutting and open house will be held on Thursday, January 20 at 3 p.m., followed by the Hall of Fame dinner and ceremony. Dr. Auvenshine will be inducted for his service on the NJCAA Board.
Paul Brown gave an athletic report, including fall sports highlights. Volleyball won the region and qualified for nationals. Women’s soccer also qualified for nationals with an at-large bid. The women’s soccer team had two All-American athletes. Spring sports are underway with the addition of Track & Field. On March 25 and 26, Hill College will host its annual rodeo.
Student Success Initiative featured Texas Country Reporter video of the Texas Heritage Museum, presented by John Versluis.
Billy Don Curbo presented Consideration of Approval of Property Bids for Delinquent Tax Foreclosures. Regent Sullins made a motion to accept the bids and was seconded by Regent Auvenshine. The motion passed.
Billy Don Curbo presented Consideration of Approval for Architects. Federal grant funds will pay for the architect to develop plans for the second floor of the welding/HVAC building in Cleburne. Regent Auvenshine made a motion to accept Corgan as the architect and was seconded by Regent Sullins. The motion passed.
Dr. Boehm presented Consideration of Approval of Election. Regent Lloyd made a motion to approve the Board of Regents election for May 2022 and was seconded by Regent Kent Eubank. The motion passed.
Jamie Jaska presented the recent Hill College personnel hires and resignations. Regent Auvenshine made a motion to accept the recent personnel changes and Regent Jolene Lehmann seconded. The motion passed.
Regent Sullins made a motion to adjourn to Executive Session and was seconded by Regent Lloyd. The board adjourned to Executive Session at 1:15 p.m.
Regent Auvenshine made a motion to return to Regular Session at 1:33 p.m. and was seconded by Regent Lloyd.
Regent Auvenshine made a motion to accept the retirement of Dr. Pam Boehm with regrets, effective May 31, 2022, and was seconded by Regent Sullins. The motion passed.
Regent Auvenshine made a motion that Dr. Boehm be recognized as President Emeritus and was seconded by Regent Sullins. The motion passed.
With no further business to conduct, Regent Brackin made a motion to adjourn, Regent Eubank seconded. The meeting adjourned at 1:35 p.m.
