Hill College is hosting an open house for its new Athletic Center for Excellence (ACE) facility at 3:30 pm on Thursday, Jan. 20. Refreshments will be provided, and the public is invited to attend the informal come-and-go event. The ACE facility is conveniently located between the Bob Bullock Sports Complex and the baseball field.

The new ACE facility is an upgrade from the college’s previous athletic training room and was expanded to include a dedicated Physical Education classroom that can also be used as a team meeting and film room, a one-bedroom apartment for assistant athletic staff, a student lounge area, and significantly more space for medical treatment of student athletes.

“Although the previous athletic training room was adequate, the available square footage was not near enough to handle the daily flow of athletes through the athletic training room, which in turn caused many athletes to skip seeking the resources available to them as they would have to wait for space to come available,” said Hill College Athletic Trainer, Allan Dinsmore II. “We now have a premiere athletic training healthcare facility that, in my opinion, would parallel that of many larger university athletic programs.”

The facility will serve as a one-stop destination for student athletes to have all their medical needs addressed including illnesses, injuries, and day-to-day recovery for athletic participation. The student lounge area provides additional space for teams or individual athletes to socialize and study.

The college’s Athletic Hall of Fame and a dedicated recognition area will also be housed in the new ACE facility. The 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held that same day at 7:15 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the Hill County Campus.

“Moving forward the Hall of Fame will have a dedicated home in an area in which it belongs,” said Dinsmore. “We also plan to showcase many of the athletic achievements Hill College Athletics and athletes have achieved over the history of the athletics program including national championship appearances, other championships, athletes who have gone pro and all-time statistical leaders for individual sports. Once completed, I think the Athletic Hall of Fame/Athletic Recognition area will be a destination stop for anyone interested in athletic success at Hill College.”

Dinsmore said he’s looking forward to sharing the new facility with the community.

“I would encourage people to come out and see what Hill College is doing to invest in one of its largest student number populations in the student athletes,” he said. “This facility is ultimately a student-athlete first facility in meeting their needs and in celebrating the legacy of Hill College athletics.”
