Allen Pack, a student from Hill College in Hillsboro, was chosen to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio as part of the Community College All-State Symphonic Band. Pack is a sophomore music major and graduate of Grandview High School. He joined other students selected for the Texas Community College Band Directors Association (TCCBDA) All-State Band in rehearsal Feb. 14-17, culminating in a concert on Saturday. He studies trombone with Phillip Lowe, coordinator of visual and performing arts at Hill College, who states “He is one of the finest trombone players I’ve had the pleasure to work with at Hill College.”

Several hundred community college band students audition each year by recording two etudes. An anonymous five-person panel judges the submissions and selects the best musicians for the band. Pack not only won a position in the band, but was also chosen first chair trombone at the chair auditions.

“We are very proud of Allen for being selected for this prestigious group,” Hill College Director of Bands Steve Hart said. “He worked extremely hard in preparing for the auditions, and was a wonderful representative for Hill College at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention.”
