Hill College Hosts Third Annual Faculty Innovation Conference

Hill College hosted the third annual North Texas Community College Consortium’s (NTCCC) Faculty Innovation Conference Oct. 11, at the Hill County Campus Performing Arts Center. The conference theme was “Thinking Outside the Box: Creative Inspiration for Continuous Improvement.”
The President of the North Texas Community College Consortium Christine Hubbard welcomed the attendees and introduced Hill College President and NTCCC Board Member Dr. Pam Boehm. Boehm welcomed the conference attendees to Hill College. The Dean of Academic Pathways Nancy McKenzie introduced the keynote speaker, Tony Holland. He is the vice chancellor of teaching, learning and academics, of the Alabama Community College System. He spoke about the instructional leadership academy that he developed to create a more active, learning-centered environment in classes, based on a maximum student engagement, relevant instruction, and supportive relationships. He presented five strategies guaranteed to increase critical thinking, retention and completion for faculty and students.
The 2018-2019 Consortium Assessment Leadership Institute (CALI) class is a group of community college faculty who were recognized as “Assessment Fellows” during the general session.

In addition to these awards, CALI Co-Creators and Mentors Chris Daley, coordinator of institutional research from Trinity Valley Community College and Marlon Mote, district director of institutional effectiveness, accreditation, and planning from Tarrant County College received awards for their work of creating the CALI program.
Hill College’s Biology Instructor Rosalyn Hunter led a breakout session about practical teaching tips and tricks titled, “The Flipped Lab—Using Multimedia to Enrich Lab Instruction.”
This year’s event brought together 75 attendees representing 13 community colleges (Collin College, Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, and El Centro Colleges of the Dallas County Community College District, Hill College, Navarro College, North Central Texas College, Paris Junior College, Tarrant County College, Temple College, Trinity Valley Community College, Vernon College, and Weatherford College), the Education Service Center Region 11, and the Alabama Community College System.
The NTCCC is a premier regional network that provides professional development and growth opportunities and consortium-wide activities in institutional planning, research effectiveness for community colleges in North Texas.
