Hill College Board of Regents November 2020 meeting summary

The Hill College Board of Regents' regular meeting was held Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020. Board Chair David Teel called the meeting to order at 12:05 p.m. 

The invocation was given by Chairman Teel.

Pam Van Hook, of the Hill College IT department, gave a quick tutorial on the use of the new BoardBook system.

The minutes from the October 2020 regular and executive session meetings were reviewed. Regent Dwight Lloyd moved to approve the minutes and Regent Bill Galiga seconded. The minutes were unanimously approved.

Billy Don Curbo presented the October 2020 financial report.  Regent Charles Bryant moved to approve the financial report as given.  Regent Tony Marley seconded. The financial report was approved.

Dr. Pam Boehm gave the President’s Report:

  • COVID-19 update.
  • Texas Association of Community Colleges is working on the legislative platform for all 50 community colleges for the upcoming legislative session.
  • All spring athletes will return to campus early on January 4th, following winter break, with the exception of Rodeo and Soccer.
  • Hill College received $50,000 Skills Development Fund Grant to partner with Double B Foods in Meridian.
  • Brookshire Grocery Co. donated $25,000 to create an endowed scholarship for students.
  • Hill College made application for $112,000 technical reskilling grant from the THECB and will hear back on December 18.
  • Held virtual QEP training with guest speaker Emily Schwartz. 108 employees watched the program live.
  • Phi Theta Kappa held virtual induction ceremony.
  • Modified student events for Halloween on all campuses.
  • Red Ribbon, drug prevention/awareness week events held on campus this past month.
  • Attended virtual UNT annual law conference.  
  • Attended Century Club meeting. Century Club funded padding for gym bleacher seating which has been completed.
  • Participating again this year in “Go Hillsboro” with communication and diversity as the focus this year.
  • Held fall JCC Advisory Board meeting in Cleburne.
  • Congressman Williams was the guest speaker at Rotary in Cleburne.
  • Met with Mr. Hazlewood and Mr. Smith to discuss possible scholarships for home school students in Johnson County.     
  • Attended Godley ISD football game along with Senator Birdwell and Godley ISD Superintendent Dr. Dear.    

Lizza Trenkle gave an enrollment report.

Dr. Boehm gave the Athletic Report. Rodeo men are sitting second in region and women at fifth. Scrimmages for all sports are coming to an end for the fall semester.

Mr. Curbo presented Consideration of Approval of Rob Woodard as Portfolio Manager of the Hill College Funds Gifted by AD Wheat. Regent Lloyd made a motion to continue to utilize Mr. Woodard as the Portfolio Manager for these funds and was seconded by Regent Marley. The motion carried.  

Ms. Trenkle presented Consideration of Approval of Affiliation Agreement with Hill College CE Department & Johnson County Corrections, LaSalle Center, Cleburne, TX. Regent Bill Auvenshine made a motion to accept the agreement and was seconded by Regent Karen Brackin. The motion carried.

Consideration of Approval of Burleson Lease Agreement was tabled.

Jamie Jaska presented the recent Hill College personnel hires and resignations. Regent Bryant made a motion to accept the recent personnel changes and Regent Jolene Lehmann seconded. The motion passed.

With no further business to conduct, Regent Brackin made a motion to adjourn, Regent Lehmann seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 12:58 p.m.
