2020-2021 Volleyball Team

Hill College’s volleyball team is prepped and ready for the 2020 season, which is taking place January through March of 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions during the fall. The Lady Rebels kick off the season at home with a scrimmage against No. 10 Trinity Valley Thursday, Jan. 21, at 6 pm.

The team, led by Head Coach Jordan Fish and Assistant Coach Dylan Butler, earned the No. 15 spot on the 2020-21 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Women’s Volleyball Preseason Poll for the week of Jan. 19 after finishing last season with a 19-10 record, regional championship and nationals qualification.

The squad is picked to win the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) championship again this year according to the conference’s Pre-Season Coaches Poll for the 2021 spring season.

“We have been preparing for this season with tough practices two times a day through the start of classes, as well as through a lifting and conditioning program that is helping the team quickly get back into shape,” said Fish. “I am looking forward to hopefully another great season and seeing some freshmen develop into key leadership roles on the court.”

Fans can expect to see several new faces as the Lady Rebels have 10 freshmen and one transfer on this year’s squad.

“I anticipate several of our freshmen will have a standout year,” Fish said. “Brooklyn DaCosta (starting setter), Tara Goolsby (right-side force), Shelby Tally (all-around athlete), and Ainsley Meissner and McKenya Sorrells (middle blockers) have been competing at a high level and push each other to get better every day.”

Returning sophomores will also have a significant impact on the team and season through both leadership and play.

“Taylor Skryzcki committed to continue her volleyball career at Texas Women’s University, and Stasha Adams has been a stand-out this preseason in the back row and is getting looks from four-year schools,” said Fish. “Camryn Specia, our six-rotation outside hitter, is going to be a real threat from the front and back rows this year. Soleil Trejo’s leadership and drive to be the best caps off our sophomore class to be one of the best yet.”

After Thursday’s scrimmage, the next home game will be against Salt Lake Friday, Feb. 5, at 6 pm. For their first conference game at home, the Lady Rebels will play Ranger on Monday, March 1, at 6 pm. The college and team are prepared for schedule changes and modifications given the current environment. Fans are encouraged to check the college athletics Facebook page and website for updates.
