Hill College celebrates the arts this November with musical and theatre performances by students and community members throughout the month.
On Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., the college’s Music Program presents an evening of music by the band and choir.
The Hill College choir, under the direction of Dr. Caleb Chang, director of choirs & assistant professor of vocal music, starts off the evening with a performance of several beloved songs, including “There is More Love Somewhere” and “Over My Head”; “Go the Distance” from the musical Hercules; the choral version of “Viva La Vida,” arranged by Mark Brymer; “All Days are Nights,” words by Shakespeare; “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” arranged by Roger Emerson; and “A World We Cannot See,” by Jim Papoulis.
“The choir is looking forward to performing a range of vocal arrangements. We are excited to share the talent of this year's choral ensemble with the Hillsboro community,” said Dr. Chang.
Following the choir, the concert and jazz bands will perform a wide selection of music under the direction of Steve Hart, director of bands. “The bands will play work by composers as varied as Andrea Gabrieli and Irving Berlin. The students are looking forward to performing. It will be an evening of great music!” said Hart.
These performances showcase the talent and dedication of the students and faculty of the Music Program at Hill College, which provides students with a university-level education for individuals interested in careers in music as musicians, singers, and educators.
Later in the month, the Hill College Players celebrate the holidays with their performance of Ralph and Cleo's Crazy Christmas.
Produced by special arrangement with Big Dog/Norman Maine Publishing LLC, Rapid City, South Dakota, Ralph and Cleo’s Crazy Christmas tells the story of an abandoned cat who finds friendship with a beagle named Ralph. Ralph convinces his owner to adopt Cloe just in time for Christmas, but their plan is foiled by a couple of thieves who petnap them and hold them for ransom!
“Ralph and Cleo's Crazy Christmas, by Pat Morgan, is the Hill College Players’ second show of the 2024–2025 season. This family-friendly holiday show, featuring Ralph the dog and Cleo the cat, is directed by sophomore theatre student Hannah Roznowski and will be a fun-filled way to kick off the holiday season,” said Dr. Jenny Corder, professor of drama.
Performance dates and times:
Thursday, November 21, 2024, 7 p.m.
Friday, November 22, 2024, 7 p.m.
Saturday, November 23, 2024, 2 p.m.
