Earlier this year, Hill College’s Jackie Armstrong, an instructor of computer science, once again served on the editorial committee of the Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education (CISSE) Journal.
Each year, members of the editorial committee peer review papers that are submitted from across the globe for publication, which publishes high-impact research that enhances and supports cybersecurity education. This year, the committee reviewed 24 papers.
Papers for the 2025 journal discussed a variety of topics, including the emerging challenges of dramatic cyber transformations in an effort to improve cybersecurity education. AI was another major theme, including discussions of AI in education and innovative content. Other topics addressed quantum computing, the sociopsychological aspects of cyberspace relating to behavior on social media and the psychology of cyber conflict roles, among other topics.
Armstrong, who has served as a program committee member of CISSE since 2019—the year the college began a cybersecurity program—reviews colloquium journal submissions each year as part of the Hill College outreach team for the college’s ongoing National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity Defense (NCAE-CD) designation. Part of the compliance requirements for NCAE-CD designation is to give back to the cybersecurity community. Peer review is one way to meet that requirement and Armstrong has been committed to doing so since 2019.
The NCAE-CD is a program managed by the National Security Agency’s (NSA) National Cryptologic School, which aims to create and manage a collaborative cybersecurity education program with community colleges, colleges, and universities to establish standards for cybersecurity curriculum and academic excellence.
CISSE is dedicated to the advancement of cybersecurity education and training by providing an annual journal, working groups, webinars, and an annual colloquium as outlets for collaboration and information sharing in order to share cutting-edge research and best practices to the industry.
