Basic Instructor Certification Course (40 Hours/$269) 4.0 CEUs

This course is designed to provide the basic concepts of instruction and to increase the quality of professional law enforcement training. This course introduces the student to the teaching-learning process, phases of the teaching-learning process, factors affecting learning, needs assessment, task analysis, developing learning objectives, preparing a lesson plan, and methods of instruction. The students will be taught how to develop and use instructional media to enhance their presentations. In addition, the fundamental techniques of developing testing and evaluation procedures will be presented. Each trainee must demonstrate the basic knowledge and skills required to effectively instruct a lesson during two teaching exercises which will be evaluated by two instructors. Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Course #1014.

Prerequisites:

  • Two years’ experience as a peace officer, telecommunicator, or jailer; or a bachelor’s degree and two years of teaching experience; or a graduate degree.

Firearms Instructor Certification Course (40 Hours/$269) 4.0 CEUs

Proper firearms procedures and techniques on the firing range. Meets objectives for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Course #2222.

Prerequisites

  • Not prohibited by state or federal law or rule from attending training related to firearms or from possessing a firearm.
  • Never had a license or certificate issued by the commission suspended or revoked.
  • Currently hold an Instructor Certificate issued by the commission.
  • The student will be required to shoot two courses of fire (pistol/shotgun) on the first day with a minimum of 90% (2 attempts). If the student is unable to achieve 90%, then he or she will not be allowed to participate in the course at this time.

Patrol Rifle (30 Hours/$229) 3.0 CEUs

This course will focus on the fundamental skills needed for the handling/deployment of a patrol rifle in relation to its real-world application for law enforcement. This course will cover many aspects on employing your rifle in a tactical/hostile environment while engaging targets out to 75 yards. There will be a performance evaluation and qualification students must pass prior to completing this course. The minimum passing qualification score must be 90%. Our instructors possess real-world experience derived from Military and Law Enforcement backgrounds. Basic Tactical Medical (16 Hours/$141) 1.6 CEUs

The Basic Tactical Medical course for Law Enforcement defines “Medical Threat Assessment” and helps students devise a medical plan for tactical environments. The students will learn techniques and practice how to apply the plan to control life threatening bleeding during “Care Under Fire (Hot Zone)” and techniques to treat injuries during “Tactical Field Care (Warm Zone).” Students will also learn techniques to move and extricate victim(s) from a hostile environment during “Tactical Evacuation Care (Cool Zone).” This 2-day course includes lecture, classroom skills work and practical exercises. It will also include scenario-based training on an outdoor range, which will cover the shooting and handling of a handgun in relation to its real-world applications for law enforcement in a tactical/hostile environment. This course will be moderately physical and very mentally demanding so come prepared. Our instructors possess real-world experience derived from military and law enforcement backgrounds. As professionals, the instructors are committed to bringing students unmatched training to keep them on point in the fight and tactically efficient in all environments. 

WEAPON SYSTEMS USED: Handgun Only

COURSE PREREQUISITE: Law Enforcement Officer (State, County, Local, Federal / credentials will be checked and verified); Active Duty Military Personnel (credentials will be checked and verified); and MUST be able to demonstrate and employ safe weapons handling at all times during all training and courses of fire.

Psychological and emotional factors, "use of force" factors, force options, and deadly force. Emphasizes legal issues such as civil rights complaints, governmental liability, court decisions, and vicarious liability. Includes review of Chapter 9 of the Penal Code. Intermediate Crime Scene Investigation (40 Hours/$269) 4.0 CEUs

Topics include objectives, preparations, procedures, and methods of crime scene search; value of crime scene sketches and their relationship to crime scene photographs; fingerprints as physical evidence, fingerprint identification and classification, types of impressions and techniques for locating and developing impressions. Intermediate Child Abuse Prevention and Investigation (16 Hours/$141) 1.6 CEUs

Child abuse theories and components of good parenting. Includes emotional neglect and abuse; characteristics, dynamics, and indicators of physical neglect and abuse; initial investigative procedures and strategies; injury identification and investigation; interview strategies and techniques. Emphasizes special investigative issues, interrogation techniques, runaway children, child pornography, Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (DPRS), Texas Crime Victims Rights and Crime Victims Compensation Act, uniform crime reporting, family violence, and interagency cooperation and teamwork. Basic SWAT-Tactical Skills (60Hours/$349) 6.0 CEUs

Development of proficiency with a range of impact weapons and/or chemical agents and defensive techniques necessary to control a violent person. Develop a basic understanding and respect for the fundamental rights and issues when interacting with people with mental illness. Basic Mental Health Officer Certification (40 Hours/$269) 4.0 CEUs

Presentation of the knowledge and skills necessary to become certified as a Mental Health Peace Officer. Includes Mental Health Peace Officer duties and training, mental disorders, indicators of mental illness, understanding mental illness, handling a person in acute phase of mental illness, the law and liability issues, documentation, safety and assessment, intervention in high and low risk situations. Satisfies requirements for Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Course #4001 certification as a mental health officer. Define mental illness; explain the difference between mental illness and mental retardation; identify the adverse side effects of drugs used to treat psychiatric conditions; identify community resources for referral of mentally ill/mentally retarded citizens; and explain the judicial process as it applies to mental illness.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum two years experience as Texas licensed peace officer or Justice of the Peace.
