This fall, Hill College celebrates the arts with performances from the Phillip H. Lowe Performing Arts Series and the Hill College Players.
This is the 31st season for the Performing Arts Series (PAS). Each year, the PAS series brings performing artists from all genres to Hillsboro. “We have an exciting season in the works thanks to the generous donations made by our supporters,” said Larry McCord, instructor of music.
Upcoming performances include the University of North Texas (UNT) One O’Clock Lab Band, a Grammy-award winning band, on October 24, 2024; the Reed Quintet of the Air Force Band of the West on November 12, 2024; Crash at Crush, a musical about the 1896 staged train crash near West, Texas, produced by Texas Comedies, on February 20, 2025; and Party in the PAC (the Vara Martin Daniel Performing Arts Center) with the Intensity Band on April 29, 2025. All performances begin at 7 p.m.
“The internationally famous UNT One O’Clock Lab Band will bring their dynamic sound and unique jazz stylings to our stage under the direction of Associate Professor of Music Alan Baylock. This exciting ensemble has performed in some of the most prestigious festivals and venues throughout the world, including a performance with Duke Ellington and Stan Getz at the White House. They have released numerous albums, earning seven Grammy Award nominations. Director Baylock arranged for the Airmen of Note, the United States Airforce premier jazz ensemble, and his compositions have been performed by some of the greatest artists in the jazz field. Please join us as we welcome this outstanding group,” said McCord.
The Hill College Players begin their season on October 16, 2024, with their consecutive three-night series of Wicked Lit, including performances of “The New Catacomb” by Jonathan Josephson (adapted from a short story by Arthur Conan Doyle), “The Unnamable” by H. P. Lovecraft (adapted by Jeff. G. Rack), and “The Yellow Paper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman (also adapted by Jeff G. Rack.*
“Wicked Lit is a great way to kick off the spooky season and get ready for Halloween. Our Hill College Players have been hard at work creating psychological thrillers for our college and our community,” said Dr. Jenny Corder, professor of drama.
The Players performances run October 17 through 19, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on October 17 and 18, and at 2:30 p.m. on October 19 at the Vara Martin Daniel Performing Arts Center.
